FAQ's for AP's
CLICK HERE FOR FAQ's, or view below:
Why take an AP exam? Taking an AP exam gives students the opportunity to earn college credit for the course or elective credit. Depending on your score of the exam, most universities and community colleges will give students credit for the course/subject area. UC course credit by exam score / Cal State course credit by exam score
What happens if I don’t pass the AP exam? Nothing. If you don’t pass the exam, nothing will happen academically. It will not appear on your transcript nor on any of your college applications.
What happens if I do pass the AP exam? You can self-report your scores in college applications. In addition, you will definitely want to send your AP scores to the university or community college that you choose to attend. They will work with you in determining how many credits you will earn automatically from passing the AP exam.
Will colleges see my scores? Colleges will not see your AP exam scores unless you self-report scores in college applications or send scores to the universities. Colleges do not want to send your AP exam scores until you have been admitted to the university and are committed to attending their college.
When is registration for AP exams? 9/12/22 - 10/31/22 online at www.totalregistration.net/AP/053570
Are there refunds? Refunds of $100 (or $10 for reduced fee) per exam are available if exams are canceled before 11/1/22.
Can non-THS students sign up to take an exam at Tustin? If we are offering the exam being requested, have space available, AND the student resides within TUSD district boundaries, yes. Approval is through Mrs. Hagstrom.
How much do exams cost? $107 per exam if you register by 10/31/22. For registration on or after 11/1/22, exam fees increase to $152 per exam for all students. Upon qualification and approval of the School Meal Application (free/reduced lunch program), the cost of each exam is $17. However, fee discounts will not be approved after 11/1/22.
How do I know if I will qualify for a reduced exam fee? You must submit a Free/Reduced Lunch program application using the School Meal Application found on THS website under Parent Quicklinks to determine qualification and approval by the district office - click here for the form: School Meal Application
Then, you will need to request a fee discount on the AP registration website, called Total Registration. Mrs. Hagstrom will approve the fee discount if the student qualifies. If you do not qualify for the free/reduced lunch program, you will not qualify for a fee discount. The reduced cost is $17 per exam.
When are AP exams? 5/1/23 - 5/11/23. Morning exams begin promptly at 8:00 AM and afternoon exams begin at 12:00 PM. Must arrive 15 minutes prior to exam start time for the check-in process. The date of each exam is pre-determined by the College Board and cannot be modified or adjusted by individual school sites. Every school giving AP exams will administer exams in this window.
What exams does Tustin offer? THS offers exams for the AP courses offered at the school. See schedule on next page.
What do I need to bring on the day of exams? Student ID card or State Issued ID card, #2 pencil, pen (must be blue or black ink), water, snacks, and an approved calculator if applicable to the exam. See here for approved calculators and policies.
