ASB: ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY
What is ASB?
ASB stands for Associated Student Body. ASB is in charge of all of the student activities and provides support for various events that take place here at Tustin High School. ASB also approves expenditures related to THS. Students spend countless hours working to create an atmosphere where all students feel Tiller Pride.
Who can join?
- Students with a positive attitude and enthusiastic spirit
- Students with moral integrity
- Students who want to serve their school by working on a team
- Students with flexible hours who want to be involved on campus
Why join ASB?
ASB is a major part of all high schools and is often the nuts and bolts of how school events and activities are run. ASB leadership is a good experience for any student who wants to take hold of their high school experience in a hands-on way, and is looking for an opportunity to learn how to plan events, communicate better, gain a deeper sense of initiative and work ethic, creatively work with others, and lead their peers.
If you are interested in becoming a member of ASB at Tustin High School, please contact one of the ASB Directors: Chris Miguel or Sarah Markley.
What will I do in ASB?
ASB exists primarily as an organization to serve the students at Tustin High School. We believe in plugging students into jobs that fit who they are and how they want to serve.

Seal of Biliteracy
STATE SEAL OF BILITERACY
The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, school district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. The program vision is to help students recognize the value of their academic success and see the tangible benefits of being bilingual. Tustin High School, TUSD, and the State of California award the seal annually to all eligible graduating 12th grade students.
The SSB Award is a recognition offered to students who, through their course work at TUSD, have become biliterate. If awarded, you will receive an invitation to the State Seal of Biliteracy Ceremony/event. During the event you will be honored amongst your peers and teachers and will be presented a medallion. In addition, your high school transcript will be stamped with an official biliteracy seal which is recognized by many colleges and universities.
You will have to complete and submit an application. Once your application is received, it will reviewed and you will be sent an email that either confirms or denies your eligibility. If you receive confirmation of your eligibility, you will need to make an appointment to take the oral examination.
The oral examination is the final step in the path to being recognized as a biliterate scholar. The examination takes approximately 5 minutes and it entails a brief conversation in the target language. Passing the oral examination means you are automatically granted the State Seal of Biliteracy Award.
There are a few important dates to keep in mind if you wish to pursue the SSB Award.

Vocal Music
THS VOCAL MUSIC PROGRAM
The students of the Vocal Music Department explore and perform music of a variety of genres. Students experience the wonder of choral singing through a collaborative process. Both The choral students perform throughout the school year providing an artistic touch to the various events here at THS. The vocal students perform a Winter & Spring Concert, a Valentine Concert as well as performing in the Tustin Community. They also perform at the winter and International Assemblies run by the Tustin High Associated Student Body. One of the highlights of the year is the collaboration with the Theatre Arts Department and the Dance Department when all the talents are combined for a Spring Musical. The musicals are chosen by the assessment of the student talent and the availability of the production. This is an outdoor event where the community can experience the wonderful talents of the THS students in the performing arts programs.
The Voice Collective
Besides the Concert and Advanced Choir Classes, "The Voice Collective" is an auditioned smaller group of experienced singers that meet during Tutorial time, 6 weeks in the fall and 6 weeks in the spring to prepare Pentatonix-style pieces for concerts, assemblies, and community events. The purpose of this group is to offer more challenging vocal music experiences for talented, committed singers who may be considering a career in music.
MUSICAL PRODUCTION
The Choral Music Department works collaboratively with the Theater Arts Department to bring a professional musical production to the Student Plaza Stage biennially. The combined forces allow for a collaborative work that supports student learning through a team element. All the choral members are part of the cast and play a part of the big production numbers that support the story line of the show. Being a part of a full stage will bring memories that last for a lifetime. Come and enjoy the world of singing and performing! There is nothing like it!
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Tustin High Vocal Music Program, please email the THS Vocal Music Director, Dawn Snider.
THS Dance Team & Boys Hip Hop
THE TUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL DANCE TEAM & BOYS HIP HOP
The 19-time national champion Tustin High School Dance Team is made up of two groups: Dance Team and Boys Hip Hop. The team is dedicated to offer its dancers more than just another sport; it aims to present to the participants a unique opportunity to combine athleticism and aestheticism through dance expression. As a dancer on the team, the girls and boys learn various styles of dance, such as jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, and character; as well as conditioning, dance technique, and the use of props to prepare them for competitions.
Although its competition season is in the spring, the team is busy year round. The dancers go through a strenuous six-week conditioning period during the summer to prepare for the coming year. When school starts, they “hit the ground dancing” with performances at football games and school assemblies. At competitions, the girls and boys get the chance to showcase their hard work learning various routines categorized by the style of the dance.
The THS Dance Team strives to bring additional values to the team by actively looking for opportunities for the dancers to be involved in the community. They regularly appear in the Tustin Tiller Days parade, and provide entertainment by performing at elementary schools, as well as local charity and social events.
Our team is 100% self-funded through grants, donations, business sponsorships, and fundraising. Please click here for further information regarding donations and sponsorship.
